Another week of sharing and reflection as the research interviews continue in class. Hearing about other topics has been interesting, but particularly the research of my classmate Vania who is studying forensic pathology. This ties itself well with my topic and much of our research can be shared as communal. She highlighted the issues with the forensic side including malpractice and the lack of pathologists that is leading to lower quality of this line of work. I plan to use some of Vania’s findings while also sharing some of my own to strengthen both of our projects and research.
As I am writing this I am preparing for an interview with criminology professor John L. Worrall at the University of Texas at Dallas. While Prof. Worrall established that he knows little about the area of wrongful convictions, I still feel that this will be a meaningful interview as it serves as a learning opportunity about the criminal justice system as a whole. Additionally, much of his research into police misconduct and procedure and even more specifically the three strikes law in California lend itself very nicely to my research and my project. This will hopefully be a meaningful and interesting interview.
Goals for the coming week
I plan to continue to look for interview opportunities with lawyers, professors, or anyone I can find with a connection to wrongful convictions and hopefully find a prospective mentor in doing so. Additionally, I will continue my research and work at the Original Work project and look to establish the website soon.
