Closing the Curtains - 4/29/24

As I type this final blog post I am officially closing the curtain on the ISM program for the year.  And what a year it has been.  In a reflective conversation I had with my dad we talked about how huge of an opportunity this has been to learn about a career and a field I plan on pursuing in the future.  This was something that he said he wished he had when he had been in high school.  This made me feel particularly proud and grateful to have been a part of this program and to have been able to explore in the way that I did.  I have been able to meet with a range of professionals from the legal field in both criminal and appellate law and have been able to learn so much about what life in the legal field is like.  My mentorship with Mr. Young has been such an incredible experience.  From the meetings we had in his office to the briefs I read and studied to the oral argument I was able to attend, this has truly provided me with a unique experience about what appellate law is like.  This has opened the door to a wealth of knowledge and new opportunities and has allowed me to focus into the field which is not one I feel I otherwise would have gotten into.

Goals for the future

While I am sad that this experience is over, I plan on using what I have learned and the connections I have learned in my future endeavors.  I am looking to find an internship opportunity this summer and am planning on possibly building off of my connections to find that.  I also plan on using what I have learned throughout this year and in my mentorship in order to move forward as a prospective lawyer.
