Topic Solidified - 9/25/23

Throughout the majority of the first part of the year, I focused much of my work on choosing a specific area of law to make my topic. This past week I finalized my decision to work on criminal law. This is an area that is immensely interesting to me and is an area that especially coincides well with much of the research I have done. Additionally, in narrowing down my topic to criminal law, I have continued my research into wrongful convictions. Having taken an ethical lens to much of my research, it is hard to argue a more morally questionable part of the justice system than the wrongful conviction of innocent people. Not only does this ruin an innocent person’s life, but it fails to carry out justice against the true perpetrator of the crime. My research looked into what major causes of these wrongful convictions are. In labeling and explaining major factors that lead to these convictions, I am able to hopefully find a source for this problem and an area to do additional research for possible reforms.

Goals for the coming week

This coming week I plan to do further research into wrongful convictions and possible changes that can be made to the system to hinder the rate of these convictions. Futuristically, I plan to do case studies that show the “unjust justice” that is a part of our system and show on a micro level the processes that lead to wrongful convictions and the evidence and situation that possibly allows this to happen.
