First is (Not) the Worst - 11/1/23

Updated: Nov 8, 2023

As I am writing this, I am a few minutes away from my research speech in front of the class. I feel that this is a great opportunity for me to not only share my research with the class, but also compile my research into a concise format that I can use to reflect on what I have learned so far and what areas I should research and look into moving forward. As the first speech, I will present independently of peer influence and will hopefully be able to set an example for future speeches. Since my last post, I have had the opportunity to interview Mr. Chase Baumgartner, an attorney on behalf of the Innocence Project of Texas. Mr. Baumgartner, a former DNA analyst and specialist that became frustrated with the misinterpretation of his evidence, recently became a lawyer in order to use his forensic expertise to help combat wrongful convictions. Because of his forensic specialization, our conversation was largely centered around DNA and I learned a lot about the process of examining DNA, how DNA is presented in court and in turn how it can be easily misconstrued, and how DNA mistakes can happen as well as what can be done to identify and correct those mistakes. I plan to do additional research into this field as I progress.

Goals for the week

I plan to transition my focus into my Original Work Website project and look to expand my research into finding statistics and cases that are important to include in my website. I also need to look at how to summarize information so that it is easy to understand to viewers. These are all things I plan to accomplish moving forward before I get into my actual speech..
