A Balancing Act - 10/2/23

As I continue to close in on my first major event with ISM: the Business Symposium, it is crucial for me to further my skills in creating meaningful connections, interviewing, and finding worth and importance in my interactions. The Business Symposium is a half day event that allows students to interact with a wide range of different professionals. Whether or not each professional has a direct connection to their topic of study or not, there are always things to learn from these professionals and their careers. The Symposium is a major networking opportunity for me to try to make connections and possibly find prospective lawyers that would be willing to discuss my research further. I do not know precisely what to expect from the Symposium but am excited for the networking opportunity and am determined to make the best of it.

Additionally, going into the week I conducted research about a possible needed balance between fighting arguably inevitable wrongful convictions and the goal of maintaining a functioning criminal justice system. This argues that while reforms are necessary, the problem cannot be effectively eradicated without conceding that guilty people will be allowed free. This balance is majorly disputed by people and makes reform difficult.

Goals for the coming week

I am planning on succeeding in making meaningful connections and working on networking through the Business Symposium. This will provide a launching pad for the cold calls and interview planning that I will make in the coming weeks. Additionally, if there is time to further my research this week, I plan to go into specific types of reform that can reduce wrongful convictions and lead to exonerations.
